Our key areas of expertise and intervention
VAST-Ghana is dedicated to preventing and reducing the detrimental effects of tobacco use. We advocate for strong tobacco control policies, monitor tobacco industry interference, and work to protect public health policies from industry influence.
Our work aligns with the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Article 5.3, which calls for protecting public health policies from commercial and other vested interests of the tobacco industry.
We work to prevent and control non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory diseases. Our approach focuses on risk factor reduction, early detection, and health promotion.
We advocate for policies to reduce alcohol-related harm, including restrictions on alcohol advertising, promotion, and availability. We work to raise awareness about the health and social consequences of harmful alcohol use.
VAST-Ghana advocates for evidence-based food policies to promote healthy diets and reduce the risk of nutrition-related NCDs. We focus on creating a health-enabling food environment for all Ghanaians.
We address the intersection of environmental sustainability and public health. Climate change poses significant health risks, and we advocate for policies that protect both the environment and public health.
We advocate for health-promoting taxes that can reduce consumption of health-harming products while generating revenue for health programs. Our work includes tobacco and alcohol tax advocacy.
We work to reduce road traffic injuries through advocacy for better road safety policies, awareness campaigns, and supporting enforcement of traffic laws.
We promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles to prevent NCDs and improve overall well-being. Our programs encourage active living through community initiatives and educational campaigns.
